LMIA gate board

Since September 26, 2024, ESDC does not process low-wage stream LMIA applications where the wage is under the provincial threshold AND the census metropolitan area's unemployment rate is 6% or higher. The current window below is ESDC's published record — free, always. The projected next window is a licensed-member feature (Personal and up, licence on the account; Professional and Team included).

Which stream are you in? The wage threshold

The unemployment gate applies only to the low-wage stream. Offer at or above your province's hourly threshold and the position is high-wage stream — no unemployment gate, but transition-plan duties apply; below it, it is low-wage and the gate above applies. Thresholds are ESDC's published figures.

The projection is derived by AHI from published Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey data (adapted from Statistics Canada, which does not endorse this product) and is never ESDC's figures; it can move until ESDC's official update. The 6% threshold, exemptions and cadence are policy, changeable by announcement. Exempt from the gate: primary agriculture; construction (NAICS 23); food manufacturing (NAICS 311); hospitals (NAICS 622); nursing and residential care facilities (NAICS 623); in-home caregiver positions (NOC 31301, 32101, 44100, 44101; in Quebec CMAs only for care of persons with medical needs or of children whose guardian has a medical condition, with a physician's documentation); positions in support of permanent residence only (no work permit application); short-duration positions, generally 120 calendar days or less (ESDC, Refusal to process, modified 2026-07-10).
